I must say I am very happy that Autumn is just around the corner. I have my jumpers and wooly scarfs well and truly at the ready. Although I am so glad that the weather held out for London carnival this year (kind of haha).
This time of the year is one that I look forward to so much! I am sure most of you know it was London carnival at the end of August during the Bank Holiday. This huge event consisted of over 2 million people across the Sunday and Monday (crazy right?!). This is the 2nd biggest carnival in the world!
Me and my best friend made our way to London Marleybone from Birmingham. I had to do my makeup on the train which was a challenge in it’s self. If anyone knows me they will know I like space and a big mirror and I didn’t have either. However, I managed to do it and I must say my eyeliner was pretty good.
After arriving we hopped on the tube to our hotel. I absolutely LOVE the tube. There’s just something about it, I just love it! After arriving at the hotel we had a quick change of clothes and we were off to carnival. Carnival is spread throughout the W10 area in West London. It takes place across Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. All I can say is it is HUGE! It literally feels never ending.
Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived and it did continue raining pretty much all day. However, that was not going to stop our carnival spirits. We picked up one of those plastic macs which were a lifesaver! Sunday was amazing. There is just something about the atmosphere of it all, it’s just such a happy place to be. There’s music everywhere, food and just people loving life!
It was a pretty busy day and both me and my friend were pretty shattered by the time we got back to our hotel. After a not so good sleep we were up and ready for the main day of carnival.
Monday was crazy! Everyone was in such good spirits. We headed over to carnival around 12. When walking around the carnival you have the parade going on and there’s also loads of sound systems dotted around everywhere. All of which are playing different music. Not to mention all the food stalls that are everywhere!
There are loads of floats involved in the parade and everyones dressed in such bright unbelievable costumes! I can only imagine who much time went into creating them. We spent the whole time dancing and singing, going from one sound system to another.
After lots of walking, dancing and a fair bit of drinking if I do say so. We made our way back to our hotel for a quick refresh then off we were again to the carnival after party. We jumped on the tube and headed off to Elephant & Castle to Ministry of Sound.
Again, the atmosphere was immense! Everyone was on such a high from carnival. The music was a mixture of everything at this event. They played everything from House music to Bashment across the numerous rooms.
As you can imagine my feet were in absolute tatters. Two days of walking/dancing ALL day. To then go to an afterparty and not get back to the hotel till 5am! I was completely wrecked. I honestly felt broken. However, it was so worth the pain! Tuesday morning we had to make our way back to Birmingham after one crazy bank holiday. The train journey felt like it was never going to end.
However, I have to say carnival is one of the best things I have ever experienced and I will be back there again next year for sure. If you do get the opportunity to go there then please do! You will not regret it! It’s such a great vibe and one that I think everyone should experience! Who knows maybe I will see you there next year?
PS – can we all just take a moment to celebrate finally my first travel post! WE MADE IT PEOPLE!
